Embarking on a food plan or raw food is hard for most of us because we have to deal with so many contributing factors throughout the day. Not to mention we are always surrounded with a wealth of unhealthy foods. We are easily drawn to take the path of least resistance, by giving up raw food diet and eating processed junk in its place.
One of the challenges that we have to face when starting with uncooked or living food is heightened cravings for junk food. This is due to the gradual removal of toxins from our body as a direct result of the cleansing action of fresh and living food. Aside from the heightened cravings for unhealthy food, one may also experience stomach pains, headache and uncomfortable shift to fresh and living food. The most unfortunate thing to ever happen is when someone who has been eating healthy backslides into the realm of junk.
Here are some practical tips that you can follow so that you don’t become prone to backsliding.
1. Stay away from temptations
Keep yourself away from things you know will tempt you and just avoid those situations. For instance, if you are going out to buy produce and you suddenly feel the cravings, then you may avoid passing through the candy store even if it means taking the longer route.
2. Always dwell on the consequences of your actions
If a craving creeps up on you and wont go away, just think of how terrible you will feel if you give in. Think about all the negative effects these will have on your health and its impact on your peace of mind.
3. Replace your cravings with good fresh and uncooked food
If you are having serious cravings for bad food then it may be helpful to eat natural snack foods instead. If you resort to this method to control your cravings, make sure that you are eating the substitute food within the acceptable limits.
4. Modify your diet to resolve your long term cravings.
If you are facing long-term cravings, then you may consider altering your eating program from restricted eating program to a more diverse one.
5. Observe sensible eating
Eat in moderation, and at fixed and regular intervals. Keep in mind that just because your eating fresh and healthy foods, doesn’t mean you can pig out on them.
6. Focus your mind to what you are presently doing and don’t allow yourself to get distracted by external occurrences.
7. Try to surround yourself with other people who love to eat fresh and healthy foods as well. Take it upon yourself to start a new group or join an exercise class.
8. Follow a standard exercise regimen. Exercising on a normal basis helps eliminate stress. Some exercise also have great healing and calming aspects to them as well. These kinds of activities are yoga, tai-chi, or kung-fu.
